One of the nicest beaches, and one that is great for families with children, is Poipu Beach. There are plenty of beach pools that are shallow for toddlers to wade in plus the hotels feature special programs and activities to families with children. There are also a variety of activities for adults. The most difficult part of your day will be where to eat, with a "Restaurant Row" that is to die for.
A major reason to choose Poipu is that it is the sunniest part of Kauai and the gentle trade winds quickly clear away any showers that may come through. While it may seem a small item, who wants to sit around on vacation while it rains? Located on the East Coast, Lihue has great beaches and the hotels have more reasonable rates. This area is also placed near popular sight-seeing areas such as Wailua Falls, the Sleeping Giant and other areas of interest. Kilohana Plantation is local to Lihue and here you can find one of the finest Restaurants on the east coast of Kauai, the Kilohana Grill. The North Shore is great for the adventurous. Some folks like to relax and some folks like to seek adventure on their vacations. North Shore has Kilauea Point and Kilauea Lighthouse and the area there has been made into a National Wildlife Refuge. This is a great site for amateur bird watchers.
The Princeville Hotel is a grand hotel built on an old sugar plantation. There are two golf courses in this area that are beautiful - as are the many beaches below Princeville. This is an area that is well-known for surfing. Without a doubt, if you're visiting Kauai, you must see Waimea Canyon which Mark Twain is reputed to have penned "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific". The town of Waimea is a historical area that was the first place a European stepped foot on Hawaii. To the southwest of Kauai is an island not mentioned much. This is the island of Niihau, which is one of the only places where Native Hawaiian is still largely spoken and the native ways of fishing and farming still practiced. This island can only be seen by Helicopter when taking tours. GreatHawaiiVacations.net presents unbiased articles, reviews, advice and tips on Kauai vacations. |
